Greenberg Traurig, LLP today announced that Joe D. Whitley, Shareholder and Chair of the Atlanta White Collar Practice Group, is Chairing the American Bar Association?s (ABA) Eighth Annual Administrative Law and Regulatory Practice Institute. The 2012 Institute will focus on critical issues in rulemaking and will take place on May 9-10, 2012, at the Capital Hilton in Washington, D.C. Robert P. Charrow, a Shareholder in Greenberg Traurig?s Washington, D.C. office, is also among the program faculty.
Whitley, who is Vice Chair of the ABA Section of Administrative Law and Regulatory Practice, will join Section Chair Michael Herz in delivering the conference?s opening remarks on Thursday, May 10. Topics to be featured during the conference include rulemaking policy and law, regulatory reform, state rulemaking and working with the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs.
Charrow will join a team of government and private sector lawyers in presenting a session about the judicial review of rules on Wednesday, May 9. The program will provide an introduction to the procedural steps, legal requirements and practical restraints applicable to issuing and arguing rules in court.
Whitley, who has served as U.S. Attorney in Macon and later Atlanta, joined Greenberg Traurig following an extensive career with the Department of Justice and the first General Counsel at the Department of Homeland Security. He works with clients nationally and internationally on a variety of white collar and regulatory enforcement matters to include complex corporate internal investigations, U.S. export control and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) compliance matters.
Charrow, a former official in the Reagan Administration, has wide-ranging experience in administrative and appellate law, research, biotechnology and health care issues. He also participates regularly in preparing Supreme Court briefs and certiorari petitions.
